PIN (1988)

A domineering father teaches his kids the facts of life through an anatomically correct dummy he speaks through, but when the father dies, the son continues to speak through the doll, convinced it is alive and commanding him to kill. Completely unique in almost every way, with competent acting and an alarmingly realistic dummy. The suspense builds as the son becomes increasingly obsessed with the doll, speaking to it daily, dressing it, and moving it into their home. The film is a strange and captivating character study recommended as a subtle psychological horror entry.

Rating: 8/10.

  1. I really liked this one. How creepy was the dummys voice? It suffers from a mildly 'tv movie' feel to parts, but overall, its great.

  2. Totally agree, I really enjoy the film but for all of the build it is a mild climax and expected ending, otherwise it definitely would have rated higher. I plan on returning to it often in the future though, and would recommend it to any true horror fan.

  3. Yeah, the climax felt kinda weak, but I think this may be down to the directorial style. As yo usaid, it's one to go back to. I'm glad I picked it up for about 6 bucks on DVD. It was one of those I had seen on the video shelf when younger but never got around to checking out.

  4. Totally, that and its OOP now, the cheapest I managed to grab it for $9 after watching it for months on Half.com so if you grabbed it for $6 you got a deal!

  5. Wow... PIN! I tried finding this movie for years and when I finally got it, it wasn't as scary as I remembered. The ending was really creepy though.

  6. Definitely not a "jump out of your seat and make you piss your pants" movie, but there is something very off-setting about everything in the film
