AKA "Delayed Attack of the Mullet Monster." This film never knows what it wants to be and never has any direction at any point. It feels like an hour and a half of scribbled notes and incomplete ideas. Even the monster has no clue what it is. At some point, the director decides the film needs to be about 27% creepier, so he gives The Creeper a giant axe that is never seen again, then decides in the end that the creature still isnt creepy enough, so they randomly add wings and mandibles in a failed attempt to win back the fading audience. Since the film never finds a linear path, Salva thinks quick and introduces a psychic character at the half-way point to fill in the many plot holes. Problem solved. While the acting and the build in the first act make for an interesting set-up with believable characters, it doesnt take long before both elements are lost into the black hole of the script. Despite all my nay-saying, what can be said about the film is that it offers some genuinely frightening moments in addition to a fun and original new horror icon. For a few cheap thrills and scattered gore, its a stupid good time, but it aint winning any awards. A brother and sister are stalked by a murderous backwoods monster on their roadtrip home from college.
Rating: 7/10.
Gore: 7/10.
