Teeth is a great idea in theory, offering a fun and original poke at chastity through a tongue-in-cheek horror tale, but the story would have been better served as a short film or anthology effort rather than being stretched out to a feature length. The story places Dawn, a religious advocate for chastity, up against boys with raging hormones, a scheming gynecologist, and her obsessive brother, each of whom are looking to defrock the poor virgin. As each of them come to find out, she has developed a deadly adaptation to ward against unwanted "strangers" in the form of a vagina filled with razor sharp teeth. It hits on all of the expected gags, and for that matter does them very well while delivering the gore, but the viewer feels like they have seen the movie without having watched it, anticipating each of the jokes and scenarios before they occur on screen. Jess Weixler plays an enjoyable lead, and creates the look and feel of a comic book character with her exaggerated features and expression. Her role adds to the cheeky script, which is light-hearted and fun, a nice change up in a film with a serious message that isnt forceful in its approach. There are elements that make this a unique, smart genre effort, but it just doesnt offer enough meat to reach its full potential. A good watch, worth a rent if nothing else!
