Godzilla Vs Mothra (1964)

Definitely one of the better Godzilla sequels, this time placing a giant egg in the hands of a greedy conglomerate, when Godzilla sets his sights on Japan once more on a destructive path towards the egg! It is up to a group of reporters to enlist the help of Mothra to battle the giant lizard and save the country from total annihilation. The grim tone of the original GOJIRA as well as the classic Ifukube score are reprised as Godzilla tears through town once more, crushing another series of beautifully crafted scale models. Both monsters in the flick offer superior costume design and movement, which combined with the excellent action sequences make for some of the most memorable battles in the series. The one odd aspect of the film is how clumsy Godzilla is, as many of the buildings fall as a result of him tripping over himself rather than in intentional strikes. Other than that, the film offers the same superior design and characterizations Honda brought to the screen a decade earlier.
