The Mangler 2 (2001)

The hi-tech security system of an exclusive private school begins offing the students and faculty after a troublesome teen injects "The Mangler" computer virus into the mainframe. After the computer absorbs the school's headmaster, the teens must fight to survive against a new virtual killer. THE MANGLER 2 is an in-name only sequel that bears little resemblance to the original film. Instead of a giant, menacing speed press that splatters its victims in a metal bloodbath, the majority of the deaths here occur off-screen and are committed by a rouge set of electrical wires that haunt the halls of the high school. Considering the date of its release, the cyber-terror technology is extremely dated and even laughable. Lance Henriksen's perfomance as Headmaster Bradeen is better than the film deserves, up until his weak transformation that recalls HELLBOUND's Dr. Channard. THE MANGLER 2 is a failed sequel to an already misguided film series that can easily be missed.

Rating: 5/10.

  1. Yeah, this movie sucks hard. Even worse, it has jack shit to do with the series.

I noted in my review that Lance appeared to be reading cue cards during his first speech in the film- but I could be wrong.

I look forward to your look at Part 3, an actual sequel that still sucks on its own merits.

  2. Dude I havent even finished that damn film. I downl-- I rented.. Yes.. Rented it after its initial release and just plain turned it off. I dont own it, so hopefully its on netflix.

As for this one, it seemed like a watchable but average teen flick at first, but it just never picks up. I mean, really, you couldnt come up with anything more inventive than a bunch of wires strangling people? And was it really necessary for that chick in the bikini not to get naked?

  3. Hey, if I can watch 'The Mangler 2' and 'The Mangler Reborn' in one day (true story)- you can do it too! Seriously, it is all kinds of terrible...but you can't help but look at it. Logic and reality bend around it.

Seriously, if I can review 'Dawn of the Living Dead,' you have no excuse!

P.S. It is on Netflix. There's no way in Hell I was going to buy that movie.
