A Nightmare on Elm Street 6 (1991)

Ten years have passed, and all of the children in Springwood have been brutally murdered in their sleep. All, that is, but one. John makes a narrow escape from town, but a fateful hit to the head clears his memories completely. After being mistaken for a junkie, he is taken to a rehab facility, where Maggie attempts to piece his life back together. When this involves returning to Springwood to uncover both of there pasts, Freddy will find his new victims in the miscreant teens that decide to tag along. The last (and decidedly worst) of the original NIGHTMARE series is a bad joke upon itself. Freddy's first appearance as a wise-crackin' Wicked Witch of the East sets the tone early on, and prepares the audience for minimal laughs and no scares. FREDDY'S DEAD takes a step back in time and reveals much of Freddy's past, but the absurd lengths that the plot takes to get there are sure to turn off even the hardcore NIGHTMARE fans. Director Rachel Talalay attempts to push the special effects even farther to close out the series, leading up to a gimmicky 3-D finale that falls completely flat. Just like in the original A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, Freddy has lost his power to scare.

Rating: 5/10.
