Aftershock (2012)

When a massive earthquake strikes Valparaiso, Chile, a group of travelers are sent spiraling into a deadly struggle for survival as the world around them falls to hell. Eli Roth stars in the natural disaster turned Horror flick, AFTERSHOCK, from 2012! Like in HOSTEL, we meet up with an entertaining group of travelers who are just out to have a good time, although several of them are very much out of their element. Director Nicolás López allows us plenty of time to form a real connection with these characters before unleashing his onslaught of bloody horror. Then, in an instant, we go from drinks and laughs to pure, unadulterated shocks and gore. The streets of Valparaiso flow red with blood, as buildings come crashing down on unsuspecting partiers, limbs are lost, and ravenous prisoners taken to the streets to loot, rape, and riot. Several characters are forced to make tough decisions that go against their very beliefs in the panic to survive, which leads to many of the most surprising moments in the film. AFTERSHOCK offers a fun twist on the disaster film that Horror fans are sure to find satisfying.

Rating: 7/10.

  2. I thought it was a ton of fun, it offered the same entertaining characters that made Hostel such a fun watch leading up to the massive carnage in the end. I think the problem is the genre confusion. It is a disaster flick first, with added elements of Horror. It is not outlandish like 2012, the events in the film are conceivable.
